Confidence is Perceived

Confidence is Perceived

Anybody can say that they are confident. Everybody has also heard someone say “I am confident” before. The thing is you can say one thing but show otherwise through your actions.

The person who is generally talking about themselves and the things they can do for others is a form of portraying confidence but it has its backlashes. Talking about yourself too much can come off as cocky or arrogant to some. On the other end of the spectrum, you can have someone who is very introverted and quiet. They can still show and feel confident even though they’re still staying to themselves. This is why I like to think that most confidence should be expressed through actions.

How does one show confidence? That’s easy! It’s all subtle things but they make a difference none the least. One thing a lot of us do is hold our heads down. Chin up and poke ya chest out. Think of a rooster strutting about and follow its lead. The next thing we can do is stay calm even when we feel uncomfortable. In BJJ, nobody is comfortable in the bottom side control or top mount but you can tell who is confident in their ability to escape or change position because the confident person will remain calm in this horrible position.

One of my favorite practices for boosting my confidence includes putting on one of my favorite songs, closing my eyes, and temporarily disappearing to my happy place for a quick music video. By the time I open my eyes, I’m pumped up, vibes on a thou-wow and I’m ready for action.
